Please join us on Thursday, August 30th at 6:30pm for a special dinner with legendary winemaker Steve Kistler! The experience will include a five-course seafood and vegetable-focused tasting menu prepared by our chefs paired with selections from Steve Kistler’s new project, Occidental, as well as an exciting wine from his past.

Occidental, founded in 2011, is the culmination of a journey that began in the early 1990s. Since that time, Steve Kistler has believed that the climate and soils on the uplifted marine terraces and ridges around the town of Bodega, California would be ideal for growing distinctive and Burgundian-style pinot noirs. Occidental delivers on this promise. They uphold their goal of farming sustainably and rely heavily on organic techniques to maintain a natural balance in the vineyard.

After founding Kistler Vineyards in 1979, Steve started to produce a series of coastal pinot noirs from the Fort Ross-Seaview area and planted his own four-acre pinot noir vineyard called “Occidental Vineyard,” directly across the street from the well-known Summa Vineyard.  Over the next 15 years, Steve went on to purchase the neighboring Bodega Headlands and Bodega Ridge properties, where he planted an additional 85 acres of pinot noir and built a small, state-of-the-art winery. In 2015, his two daughters Catherine and Lizzie joined him at Occidental to assist in all aspects of the business.

The Occidental Pinot Noirs are the best of Steve Kistler’s career. They are crystalline wines, with vivid aromatics and intense red fruit flavors. They have a wonderfully chiseled quality, layered with savory and mineral character. The beauty of these maritime sites and the challenging conditions these vineyards face – all of this is reflected in the Occidental wines.
